During the studio visit to Haiti, they noticed the character of the road and the sense of community it creates. It is the place of social gathering and business for the entire town of Fond-des-Blancs. We recognized similar activities along the river, except these were more intimate and communal. It provides a shelter away from the commotion of the street where one can conduct personal rituals such as bathing and laundry. It is this current relationship the Haitians share with the river and road that we are attempting to preserve through our design interventions. The daycare is located adjacent to an existing gully formed from the erosion of water. Due to our water interventions this erosion is no longer an issue. This created an opportunity to place a program in the site that would take advantage of the air up and onto th site. The daycare was placed here to take advantage of the air movement in this hot climate to keep fresh air in the facility. The plan of the facility is pores allowing the wind to flow through the structure and create even air flow. The roof structure is formed to capture and move the wind through the program creating a nice air exchange.
